Vineyard
The vineyard of La Volpara can be divided in two parts: the old vineyard with 45 years old vines and the new vineyard with vines of about 18 years old. The grape varieties in both vineyards are Sangiovese, Merlot, Grechetto and Chardonnay.
The density of plants in the old vineyard is very traditional, with 900 plants on 0,5 hectare, whereas the new vineyard has a density of more than 2500 vines also on 0,5 hectare. All vines are pruned to the guyot system.
We keep the yield of each vine restricted, that is 0,5 kg per plant in the new vineyard and 1 kg per plant in the old vineyard. In this way we can be certain we will have highly concentrated grapes. Daily control of the vineyard and of each vine contributes to optimum quality and health of the grapes.
