2020 La Volpara

Location: Monteleone di Orvieto, Italy
South-eastern slope, at an altitude of 350 meters, surface of vineyard: 1,5 ha
Grape variety: 50% Sangiovese and 50% Merlot.
Growing the grapes: Vines in old vineyard planted in the year 1975 with 1800 vines per hectare, vines in new vineyard planted in 2003 with a density of 5000 plants type of training of the vines in both vineyards is simple Guyot cultivation of vineyard with respect for environment and nature: biological.
Harvest: Merlot was harvested on the 20st of September and Sangiovese on the 30th of September, all grapes were harvested manually and collected in small baskets. Yield: 30 hl/ha, small but great grapes.
Weather: Winter was cold (-6°C) and rather long. April and May were rather pleasant, as from the 1st of June the weather really changed into variable with regular sun and rain. Summer gave high day temperatures but low in the night and it became a beautiful warm, sometimes hot and dry summer. With rain at the end of August and in September 2020 became an excellent vintage.
Vinification: After destemming, fermentation took place at a maximum temperature of 29°C for a period of 26 days in our cement tanks, with regular pushing down the cap in order to have the skins immersed.
Maturation: For 20 months in 25% new oak French barrique, and 6 months in bottle.Malolactic fermentation took place in barrique.
The wine: Drink between now and 10 years.

Acidity: 5,17 g/ltr
Dry extract: 31 g/ltr
