2018 La Volpe

Location: Monteleone di Orvieto, Italy
South-eastern slope, at an altitude of 350 meters, surface of vineyard: 1,5 ha
Grape variety: 90% Sangiovese + 10% Merlot.

Harvest: Last week of September, grapes were harvested manually and collected in small baskets. Yield is 40 hl/ha.
Weather: After a heavy winter with temperatures of -11°C, spring started very good, until we had a serious hailstorm at the end of May. This caused a lot of damage giving us a small harvest.
Vinification: After destemming, fermentation took place at a maximum temperature of 29°C for a period of 15 days in our cement tanks, with regular pushing down the cap in order to have the skins immersed.
Maturation: For one year in used oak French barrique and one year in inox.
Malolactic fermentation took place in barrique.
The wine: Drink between now and 5 years.
Analysis: Alcohol: 14 %
