2019 La Volpara

Location: Monteleone di Orvieto, Italy
South-eastern slope, at an altitude of 350 meters, surface of vineyard: 1,5 ha
Grape variety: 50% Sangiovese and 50% Merlot.
Growing the grapes: Vines in old vineyard planted in the year 1975 with 1800 vines per hectare, vines in new vineyard planted in 2003 with a density of 5000 plants type of training of the vines in both vineyards is simple Guyot cultivation of vineyard with respect for environment and nature: biological.
Harvest: Merlot was harvested on the 21st of September and Sangiovese on the 1st of October, grapes were harvested manually and collected in small baskets.
Weather: Winter was cold and also spring recorded low temperatures and a lot of rain. As from the 1st of June the weather really changed for the better and it became a beautiful warm, sometimes hot summer. It became an 'haute couture' vintage.
Vinification: After destemming, fermentation took place at a maximum temperature of 26C for a period of 26 days in our cement tanks, with regular pushing down the cap in order to have the skins immersed.
Maturation: For 18 months in 70% new oak French barrique.
Malolactic fermentation took place in barrique.
The wine: Drink between now and 15 years.
Analysis: Alcohol: 14,5 %
Acidity: 5,8 g/ltr
Dry extract: 31 g/ltr
