2012 La Volpara

Location: Monteleone di Orvieto, Italy
South-eastern slope, at an altitude of 350 meters, surface of vineyard: 1,5 ha
Grape variety: 50% Sangiovese and 50% Merlot.
Growing the grapes: Vines in old vineyard planted in the year 1975 with 1800 vines per hectare, vines in new vineyard planted in 2003 with a density of 5000 plants type of training of the vines in both vineyards is simple Guyot cultivation of vineyard with respect for environment and nature: biological.
Harvest: Second week of October, grapes were harvested manually and collected in small baskets. Yield is 35 hl/ha.
Weather: This year was a exceptional year for growing grapes, a really hot and dry summer with only the highly necessary rain at the end of September which gave our grapes the opportunity to get fully flavoured and the correct acidity.
Vinification: After destemming, fermentation took place at a maximum temperature of 27°C for a period of 19 days in our cement tanks, with regular pushing down the cap in order to have the skins immersed.
Maturation: for 2 year in oak French barrique, for the first year and used oak for the second year.
Malolactic fermentation took place in new barrique
The wine: Drink between now and 15 years.
Analysis: alcohol: 14,5 %
