2009 La Volpara

Location: Monteleone di Orvieto, Italy
South-eastern slope, at an altitude of 350 meters, surface of vineyard: 1,5 ha
Grape variety: 60% Sangiovese and 40% Merlot.
Growing the grapes: Vines in old vineyard planted in the year 1975 with 1800 vines per hectare, vines in new vineyard planted in 2003 with a density of 5000 plants type of training of the vines in both vineyards is simple Guyot cultivation of vineyard with respect for environment and nature: biological.
Harvest: Merlot in the third week of September and Sangiovese in the first week of October, grapes were harvested manually and collected in small baskets.
Yield is 25 hl/ha.
Weather: This year was a very good year for growing grapes, quite a normal number of sun hours, with occasionally some rain throughout the summer months.
Altogether a good year.
Vinification: After destemming, fermentation took place at a maximum temperature of 30°C for a period of 18 days in our cement tanks, with regular pushing down the cap in order to have the skins immersed.
Maturation: For 22 months in French barrique, new oak for the first year and used oak for the second year.
Malolactic fermentation took place in new barrique.
The wine: Drink between now and 15 years.
Analysis: alcohol: 13,5 %
acidity: 5,72 g/ltr
Dry extract: 29 gr/ltr
