The word "terroir" has been adopted from the french language and means litterally soil, but in the world of enology the definition of terroir is more elaborate: it is the interaction of soil (composition, drainage, fertility etc), climate (microclimate), position of the vineyard with the planted grape variety. All these factors attribute to the character of the wine of a certain terroir. The winegrower and the winemaker work in harmony with the terroir of their chateau or azienda and in this way they play tribute to the character of the wine.
It is unmistakingly true that a good terroir is indissolubly connected with a good wine.
